Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and film actor who was famous for her portrayal as the fierce lawyer Teri Joseph on the Showtime series Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe is her new name since she got married. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an interest in acting from when she was a child and won an award for the best Actress award in the Maryland high school contest. Apart from her role as a theater actress as well as with 'The Washington Ballet Company.' She received an acting degree from New York University. There was a lot of praise for her debut big role in The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love. This was later followed by movies like "Boogie Nights Spark, Blue Streak". Contractor who was born in Mumbai and was a resident of Nigeria during seven years, experienced a variety of cultural experiences and travels at the age of. She attended boarding schools from the age between 7 and 9 years old in London. Then her family returned to Toronto (Canada) where they were raised for her entire life. Contractor trained and eventually became a dancer of classical style in Toronto. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts - a specialized arts high school in which she studied not only dance, but also theatre. Contractor was inspired to pursue acting seriously at age of 16, after ten years of dancing. As she finished high school with a full scholarship for tuition to University of Toronto where she studied theatre with a double degree in psychology and Sociology. After one semester at the University, Contractor went to an open call audition for the show Pericles at the prestigious and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and was offered the leading role. After two weeks of performances, she got positive reviews. The play was deemed the top production by Canadian critics. The opportunity was presented to her to join Stratford Conservatory. The school accepts only eight men as well as four female students for a crash course in classical theatre. Contractor was eager to accept. The role was secured for Contractor for the following play She was also offered Hermia's part for the role of Hermia A Midsummer Night's Dream.
