In 2014 Wilsons stardom exploded across the pond in a greater way when she agreed to star on Showtimes The Affair as Alison Lockhart a troubled young woman with a dark past who gets involved with a married man named Noah Solloway. The show that also stars Maura Tierney as well as Joshua Jackson was a hit for both critics and viewers alike and won Wilson an award of a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama in 2015. Wilson spoke to British Vogue during the year 2015 told British Vogue that she loved acting in two distinct viewpoints. Noah sees Alison with a confident unpretentious and sexually attractive light. Yet, Alison perceives herself in a completely different perspective. Inside, she is unattractive. The actress added "I believe that America is such a moral nation and they're too judgemental. Everything that happens in the show appears like a shocking scene." Wilson's exit from the show shocked many of her fans in 2018. However, she remained unreliable about the details. During the CBS This Morning Interview in August of 2018, Wilson stated, "I did want to leave, but I'm not able to talk about the reasons for it." Wilson has now turned her attention to film. Wilson was a part of the 2016 film of horror I Am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the house, and also played the mysterious PT Stella character in the 2017 sci-fi rom com How to Talk to Girls in Parties. In addition to her list of horror films, Wilson will also star in the British film adaptation to The Little Stranger. The supernatural thriller was inspired by a Sarah Waters' novel. Wilson is executive producing the film.
